Natural fibre yarns with a story
The main yarn included in this kit is Wovenbeyond’s Alpine Cloud, made from 100% French Merino d’Arles wool.
Alpine Cloud is a bouncy, comfortable chainette yarn with warmth, volume and a beautifully light feel. It creates a cosy knitted fabric while keeping the vest wearable and easy to layer.
The embroidery and embellishment details use a small mix of Alpine Cloud and Crimp bouclé yarn, adding texture and character to the sheep motif.
These natural fibres were chosen not only for how they look and feel, but for the story they carry: sheep, farming, craft knowledge and a slower, more thoughtful approach to making.
Design inspiration
For Anna, the Sheep Vest was inspired by the origins of the materials and the animals behind the fibre.
When we started working together, Anna had access to all the Wovenbeyond yarns and was naturally drawn towards the story of the yarn itself. The sheep motif became a playful celebration of fibre animals: cute, expressive and full of personality.
Inspired by the Merino sheep from France behind the yarn, Anna created a sheep embroidery motif with crimped fleece on the head — a joyful detail that gives the vest its character.
The result is a design that feels fun and approachable, while still carrying the deeper material story behind Wovenbeyond yarns.
A note from Anna
“I envisioned a design that reflects the origins of its materials. When I think of regenerative farming, my mind immediately evokes images of livestock grazing on green pastures and flourishing mixed crops, hence the sheep motif.
Wovenbeyond provides a fantastic array of yarn and colours that perfectly complemented this vision.
My goal was to create a pattern that is not only visually striking but also accessible to all skill levels, incorporating knitting, crochet and embroidery in a way that is easy to understand and execute.
I hope you enjoy making and wearing the Sheep Vest as much as I do!”
